Zijn oudere broer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-232-specs\">RS232<\/a> is breed bekend omdat seri\u00eble poorten met deze interface aanwijzig zijn op bijna alle computersystemen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-422\">RS422<\/a> en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-485\">RS485<\/a> zijn differenti\u00ebel wat ze toepasbaar maakt in toepassingen waar immuniteit voor storingen belangrijk is, zoals in industri\u00eble applicaties. De single ended RS423 standaard zit ergens tussen deze standaarden in als een verbetering van RS232 met langere kabel lengtes en hogere toegestane datasnelheden.<\/p>\n\n<p>Hoewel RS423 op dit moment niet breed ge\u00efmplementeerd wordt heeft het een brede toepassing gezien in de late tachtiger jaren van de vorige eeuw vanwege zijn compatibiliteit met RS232. Hewlett Packard rustte haar computers uit met een seri\u00eble interface die zowel op RS232 als op RS423 niveaus kon communiceren en Digital Equipment Corporation gebruikte RS423 signaal niveaus op haar DECConnect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/cable\/dec-mmj\">MMJ seri\u00eble interface<\/a> standaard. Omdat zowel RS232 als RS423 beide single ended seri\u00eble communicatie standaarden zijn met vergelijkbare signaalniveaus was het mogelijk deze RS423 interfaces zowel in pure RS423 toepassingen, als in gemixte RS232\/RS423 situaties te gebruiken.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"slew\">Single ended variabele slew rate<\/h2>\n\n<p>Hoewel RS423 net als RS232 een single ended seri\u00eble communicatie interface is, staat de standaard hogere datasnelheden en kabellengtes toe. Dit wordt mogelijk gemaakt door het introduceren van een variabele slew-rate. Met RS232 is de slew-rate gefixeerd op 30 V\/\u00b5s. RS423 heeft een variabele slew-rate die kan worden gezet afhankelijk van kabellengte en datasnelheid. Dit geeft extra immuniteit tegen storingen. Bij langere kabellengtes waar storing aanwezig kan zijn kunnen een lagere maximale datasnelheid en bijbehorende slew-rate worden ingesteld. RS422 en RS485 zijn beide differenti\u00eble seri\u00eble interfaces en hebben daardoor zo&#8217;n systeem van storingsonderdrukking niet nodig.<\/p>\n\n<p>De maximaal toegestane kabel lengte met RS423 is 1200 meter, net als bij RS422 en RS485. De maximale datasnelheid is 100 kbps wat slechts vijf keer sneller is dan de standaard RS232 en veel langzamer dan mogelijk is met RS422 en RS485.
