De oudste en best bekende standaard is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-232-specs\">RS232<\/a>, een standaard waarmee de communicatie tussen DTE, data terminal equipment en DCE, data communication equipment is gedefini\u00eberd. De relatieve korte afstanden en lage snelheid die de RS232 seri\u00eble interface kan afhandelen cre\u00eberde een vraag naar nieuwere standaarden zoals RS422, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-423\">RS423<\/a> en <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-485\">RS485<\/a>. In dit document zal ik mij concentreren op de RS422 interface voor seri\u00eble gebalanceerde differenti\u00eble communicatie.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"diff\">Differenti\u00eble gebalanceerde signalen met RS422<\/h2>\n\n<p>Seri\u00ebel, gebalanceerd en differenti\u00ebel zijn de steekwoorden voor de RS422 interface standaard. Seri\u00ebel betekent dat de informatie bit-voor-bit wordt verzonden over een enkele transmissielijn, net zoals met RS232. Gebalanceerd differentieel is wat RS422 anders maakt dan RS232. Bij RS232 interfaces worden de signalen relatief aan een gezamelijke nul verzonden. Met RS422 bestaat elke signaallijn uit twee draden die bij voorkeur getwist zijn om storingen te verminderen. Het spanningsverschil tussen de twee lijnen is een indicatie van de signaalwaarde in plaats van het spanningsniveau. Door naar spanningsverschillen in plaats van niveaus te kijken wordt een groot deel van de storingen van externe bronnen ge\u00eblimineerd waardoor hogere datasnelheden en kabellengtes mogelijk zijn in vergelijking tot RS232. Het verschil in snelheid en kabellengte tussen RS422 en andere veelvuldig voorkomende interface standaarden zoals RS232, RS423 en RS485 kan in de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/nl\/comm\/info\/rs-485#char\">interface vergelijkingstabel<\/a> worden bekeken.<\/p>\n\n<p>Het twisten van de lijnen helpt om storingen te verminderen. De stoorstroompjes die worden opgewekt door een externe bron worden in richting omgekeerd na elke twist. In plaats van elkaar te versterken zoals in een rechtdoorgaande kabel reduceren de omkerende stoorstroompjes elkaars invloed. De tekening verklaar dit nog meer in detail.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lammertbies.nl\/picture\/twisted_immunity.png\" alt=\"Storing in rechte en getwiste kabels\"\/><figcaption>Storing in rechte en getwiste kabels<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"topo\">Netwerk topologie met RS422<\/h2>\n\n<p>Er zijn meer verschillen tussen RS422 en RS232 dan de maximale datasnelheid en kabellengte. RS422 is specifiek ontworpen als een interface tussen computer, printers en terminals met modems. Het modem zorgt voor de vertaling van de communicatiesignalen naar een communicatie protocol dat over lange afstanden gebruikt kan worden, waarbij lange afstand ook de andere zijde van een controle kamer of een gebouw kon betekenen. RS422 staat de directe onderlinge verbinding van intelligente apparaten toe, zonder de tussenkomst van modems. Bovendien is de RS232 driver ontworpen om \u00e9\u00e9n ontvanger te bedienen, terwijl de RS422 driver informatie naar maximaal tien parallel geschakelde ontvangers kan versturen. Hierdoor kan een centrale controle unit maximaal tien slave apparaten aansturen over een parallelle lijn. Helaas kunnen die slave apparaten geen informatie terugzenden over de gezamelijke interface lijn. RS422 staat een multidrop netwerk topologie toe en niet een multipoint netwerk waar alle punten gelijk aan elkaar zijn en elk knooppunt zend en ontvangmogelijkheden heeft over dezelfde lijn.
