1stop bit or 2?

Will different stop bits still communicate

Hi all, I have an modbus RS485 system with 8 data and 1 stop bit no parity, the device I am connecting to appears to only come configured with 8,"2" stop bits and not sure of the parity. Will this prevent communications?
